Lemons Daily Painting #42

Today’s painting is of a couple of lemons on a dark brown/purple background. It is an acrylic painting on a 6”x8” canvas. I guess I’m on a bit of a food pattern here. Not intentional at all, just seem to be gravitating to these as my subject matter. Who knows what we’ll see next! Maybe some candy.... ;)

Something exciting coming up for my friend and business partner, Dena and I - we’re going to Vietnam to paint the set for the Miss Universe Pageant! We are so excited! Just bought a travel book to learn all about Vietnam and started to download Vietnamese language podcasts to learn conversational Vietnamese (yes I know I am a geek). We’ll be gone from July 2nd to probably around the 17th. So obviously, there’ll be no paintings during that time, however on my return expect to see lots of Vietnamese influences in upcoming paintings. If you’ve ever been to Vietnam and have any tips or suggestions please send them my way!

The link to the auction for this painting is:

Have a great day and I’ll see you later!

Ice Cream Cone Daily Painting #41

This is an acrylic painting on a 6”x6” canvas. The subject is of an ice cream cone, and the flavor is chocolate - YUMMY! I had Pinkberry earlier today, green tea with strawberries (delicious) so I had the frozen desserts on my mind I guess.

This is going to be a quickie on the blog side of the painting. Kind of short on time, so until next time!

Peace & blessings,

"Koi" Daily Painting #33

This Painting is Available at my Etsy Store

Daily Painting #33 “Koi”

February 12, 2008

Well it is Award Season, which is why I’ve been a bit absent from the Daily Paintings. I’ll probably be able to finish one more before the Red Carpet for the Oscar’s starts. If you don’t already know, my business partner, Dena and I will be painting the big golden Oscar statues all week down in Hollywood. If you think about it, google either one of us during the week, we pop up in all kinds of strange places on the web (Gayle Etcheverry & Dena D'Angelo)

So the subject for today’s painting is from a photograph I took in Maui at the Westin Hotel in Kanapali. They have a beautiful courtyard area with a huge koi pond that has black swans and flamingos. So stay tuned, I’m sure I’ll be painting the other inhabitants of the pond soon.

This is a 6”x8” canvas, acrylic painting. You can see the steps taken in my small, 30-second video on youtube titled ‘Koi’ at http://www.youtube.com/GBHArtists

I’ve been reading the book, ‘A New Earth’ by Eckart Tolle over the past few days, and I must say I am enjoying it. It’s a lot to absorb, but if you had any interest in The Secret DVD, you could say this book is for someone who is looking to dive much deeper into the unknown of your own inner being (without trying to sound too wacky ☺) Oprah is doing an online class with this book beginning March 3rd, so I am trying to finish the book before the class begins. That way I can reread each chapter with the virtual class. Its free, so if you are interested check out her web site http://www.Oprah.com and let me know if you are reading it too, maybe we can make a study group of our own? What do you think of that??

Well I hope you have a great day and until next time…

Peace & blessings,
Gayle Etcheverry

Bamboo Daily Painting #32

This is available at My Etsy Store

February 3, 2008

“Bamboo” Daily Painting #32

This is an acrylic painting on a 6”x6” canvas. I love bamboo. I have a few different photographs of bamboo and thought it would make a nice little painting. This one is really sweet. Did you know that bamboo comes from the grass family? It’s obviously the largest of the grass family. At one point in my college career, I was a Biology major, and science was always a passion of mine. So the geek in me gets excited over the techie information – I’ll be a super geek and give you some now ;)

Did you know that there are about 1,000 kinds of bamboo and varying types grow in cold mountains regions to hot tropical regions. Bamboo is used in gardens, for building materials and as a food source.

Okay, enough of my goofy facts.

I’ve been working on some old paintings this week and trying to finish them up, so stay tuned, they’ll soon be in my Etsy store for sale. I will include photographs of them in some future emails as they are finished.

Well it is Super Bowl Sunday, and I should be watching the commercials. Good thing they have a myspace account, so I can just go watch them there. (For those of you who don’t have myspace accounts/or ones like them step up to the 21st century! Heck even the Super Bowl has one! He he he just kidding!)

Happy Sunday!

Peace & blessings,
Gayle Etcheverry

"Om Shanti 2" Daily Painting #31

This painting is SOLD.

January 29, 2008

“Om Shanti 2” Daily Painting #31

Well I found some more great Buddha statues and decided to try it again but with a bit of a different approach. This is a 10”x10” canvas, painted in acrylic. There are hints of metallic gold and silver in this painting. I tried to scan the picture so you could see the metallic effects. I made another time-lapse video of the painting process and you can view it at http://www.youtube.com/GBHArtists

I was ill the past few days, hence the absence of the Daily Paintings, but I am feeling much better now.

I don’t have a lot to say tonight, so I wanted to attach a story I posted in my site www.GodBlessHumanity.com - a true story told to me by a friend named Bente. I cant get it out of my mind and the people involved are truly an inspiration. I hope it finds a spot in your heart as it did mine.

Before I begin, I personally want to say that what you are about to read is very real. A friend of mine named Bente told me about this story. One of her best friends is Sue, the main person responsible for the actions in helping this family in Alhambra. I know that I receive all kinds of crazy letters in my inbox asking for money and all kinds of phony baloney. I just want to clarify that this really is true. If you have any interests in volunteering your time or services with this overhaul of their fathers home, please send me an email at gayle@GodBlessHumanity.com and I will put you in contact with the appropriate people. Of course you may contact the church listed below if you would like to send money to help in this worthy cause.

Sincerely,
Gayle Etcheverry
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Angels appear to us in difficult times, often in the form of a human being.
Sue, a high school science teacher at one of the local high schools is one of those living angels.

One of Sue¹s students, 16 year-old John and his 14 year-old brother Tony, and 23 year-old sister Linda recently lost both of their parents to cancer. The parents were divorced and the children were living with their mother in a one-bedroom apartment when their father died from Lymphoma in April of 2007. Five months later in September of 2007 their mother died from cancer. When her mother fell ill, Linda dropped out of nursing school to care for her mother and two brothers. After her mother died, she became legal guardian of her brothers.

Linda has put her education on hold and instead works two part-time jobs in order to pay the $710 rent for the apartment and the mortgage on her father's house. Unfortunately, the father couldn't keep the house up while he was sick, and the house was a mess. It was in desperate need of an overhaul. This is where Sue and her church stepped in and decided to lend a helping hand.

Gateway Community Church in Alhambra got involved in helping the kids and removed a dumpster full of debris from the garage and house, molded drywall, and another truckload of junk. The house had some water damage (which men from the church have repaired) and other new drywall was hung. The house is in terrible shape electrically, and there is a leak under the tub that needs to be fixed. The tile in the shower is in need of repair. The plumbing could possibly need major work, also. A general contractor in the church has donated his time up to this point, but they will need to hire a licensed electrician to rewire the whole house and hire a licensed plumber to do the work there. A local Home Depot store stepped in to help clean out the backyard and filled another dumpster full of debris. They are helping as they can.

The church is collecting funds to help with the high costs of such a project. The high school, teachers and a couple of friends of the mom have been a huge help to the kids during this time as well. However, the kids have no health insurance and have thus far been denied some services from the government.

Obviously, Linda is overwhelmed and the boys are still grieving the loss of their parents. Their extended family has not been able to step up and help in this effort at all. These young people are truly fortunate and grateful that the high school and others are helping and that Sue learned of their situation, getting her church involved along with my friend Bente.

The goal is to get the family moved into the house, eliminating the need for the apartment, and to give them the financial support that will allow Linda to return to nursing school. This will allow her to go on with her life and better aide in the support her 2 brothers.

If you know any tile workers, licensed plumbers, licensed electricians, exterior painters or anyone who would like to volunteer in this effort please email gayle@GodBlessHumanity.com

Of course the biggest need is financial to pay for the electrical and plumbing (unless a licensed plumber or electrician rises up to volunteer his services) and then have funds to help the family when Linda goes back to school. If you would like to make a tax-deductible donation please make the check payable to Gateway Community Church and send to:

Thank you for taking the time to read this, the entire team involved in this, including myself are grateful for it.

Ganesh Daily Painting #30

This painting is SOLD.

January 23, 2008

“Ganesh” Daily Painting #30

This is an acrylic painting on a 6”x8” canvas. The inspiration for this painting came from a photograph I found on iStockPhoto.com and used in the “Answers” video I made for GodBlessHumanity.com. This is a painting I’ve wanted to do as a Daily Painting for a long time. In the Hindu Religion, Lord Ganesh is considered as first amongst gods and is the remover of obstacles. He is also the typical lord of success in life and its accompaniments like good living, prosperity and peace. Although I am not Hindu, I really enjoy looking at his image and love what he stands for.

This time I made a real video in a time-lapse fashion. You can see it in my youtube account. It’s really short, just a minute long. http://www.youtube.com/GBHArtists

This week, my business partner Dena and I worked on the set for the SAG Awards, so this is my first painting back from the Shirne Auditorium. It still amazes me just how much work goes into those award shows. You can google me and see some of the pictures from the week. Just google ‘Gayle Etcheverry SAG’ and I’ll pop up in web sites all over the world. I’m the one in the maroon ski cap and respirator ☺

Anyway, it’s been one heck of a week. One thing that I can’t get out of my mind is the death of Heath Ledger. Not the part about how he died and all the politics around his death, but the part about the journey of life. He was really young and seemed to ‘have it all’ as many of his fans would probably say. But who is to say how long you’ll actually live? I have no clue when I’ll be ‘checking out’ and saying goodbye to this life of mine. His death has been a gentle reminder for me to live the life I’ve always dreamed of and not to think twice about it. Life is not a dress rehearsal – so why do many of us act like it is?

Well that is all for today. Don’t forget, the eBay store is being replaced with my Etsy store for now. The link to Etsy is http://www.etsy.com/shop.php?user_id=5557354

Have a great day!

Peace & blessings,
Gayle Etcheverry

“Squirrel” Daily Painting #29

This is a 6”x8” acrylic painting on canvas. This squirrel is so cute. LOVE the squirrels. Lucy loves them too, but she tries to eat them. ☺ Anyway, I just thought it would be fun to try a painting of one and here it is. I really like the way this one turned out. I did make one of those fun little videos at youtube… http://www.youtube.com/GBHartists to see it.

So I decided to try a new avenue with my online store. I now have two options. All of my paintings are up and available on my web site and also I started a store at Etsy. I’ll include the links at the bottom of the email. Etsy is a great web site for crafters/artists to sell their stuff.

Dena and I are working at the SAG awards this week, so there will only be a few of these daily paintings for this week until it is over. This is also why you haven’t heard much from me for the past few days.

Well I hope you all are having a great week and I’ll be back for another Daily Painting soon!

Cat Daily Painting #28

This Painting is AVAILABLE at My Store

Daily Painting #28 “Cat”

January 17, 2008

“Cat” is a 6”x6” acrylic painting. Although I am extremely allergic to cats, I think they are so cute! I’ve managed to paint a few cats in my time, and was feeling like revisiting that subject for the Daily Painting today. If you look closely there are purple, lavender, pink, red and yellow highlights in his hair. Lots of color in this little cutie pie!

It’s funny, there are a few topics floating around in my mind and also in the minds of friends I know. The first topic is FEAR. Fear of all kinds of things. I even find it popping up in my head about random weird things. Not super fearful that these thoughts make me crazy, but more general thoughts. So I’ve started replacing the word FEAR with the word FAITH. I’ll give you an example. Instead of saying to myself, ‘I am fearful that The Oscar’s will be cancelled’ (if you don’t already know I work at the Oscars/Red Carpet… I could care less about who wins… I just like the paycheck the Academy likes to give me) I say to myself, ‘I have faith that the Oscar’s will go on as scheduled!’. This kind of thinking makes much more sense to me. So this is what I’ve been working on in my head.

The other topic that seems to be circulating among my friends is worth (in dollars). What are you & your services worth? I’ve realized that this has been something I’ve been struggling with for a long time, and just like that, decided that wasn’t serving me anymore or helping me with this issue by putting my paintings on eBay (thanks a billion to my Dolphin Pod at Chellie’s). SO, I am going to try something different. For now on, all of my paintings will be available for purchase directly in my website in the section titled STORE. There are still a few pieces left in my eBay store, but when they run out of time, that store will be closed down for a bit.

This entire Daily Painting process has been nothing but an experiment, so I will see how this part goes for now. So for those who told me they didn’t understand eBay, well… here’s your chance! The new paintings will go up in the store for a set price, first come, first serve!

So today I only have 2 links for you…

Daily Painting #27

“Buddha 1”

January 15, 2008

“Buddha 1” is an acrylic painting on a 6”x8” canvas. I was inspired to paint this image from a photograph I took at my friend Elizabeth’s studio. (Elizabeth Golden owns Golden Earth products… you don’t know body lotions and bath essential oils/washes until you’ve tried her products! http://www.GoldenEarth.net)

I love all statues of Buddha. This one is carved out of some kind of wood and it is beautiful! I decided to paint him in the same tones, but not to look like a wood grain though.

With the help of a bunch of Dolphin friends (you know who you are… and BIG Thank you’s!) I have decided to change the way I sell and charge for my paintings. For now, all new Daily Paintings will still go to auction at my eBay store. Any paintings that do not sell will automatically become available in my new SHOP on my web page
(GaylesPaintings.com) And the prices are going up. So if there is an active painting in my eBay store you’ve had your eye on… well now is the time to buy them. I also added a section in the SHOP on my site where I will list larger paintings for sale in the future, so stay tuned!

As usual I made a youtube video of this painting. Please feel free to watch it and also please feel free to send my little painting adventure out there to your friends and family. I don’t mind my info being circulated out there.

Some people have asked about commissioned artwork and I was booked with other projects. I will soon become available for new commissioned pieces, so if you are still interested please send me an email and we can talk!

Thanks so much and have a blessed day!

Wine and Fruit DP #26

Wine and Cheese

This Painting is available at My eBay Store

January 12, 2008

Daily Painting #26 “Wine and Fruit”

This is an acrylic painting on a 6”x8” canvas. I created another little still life of a wine glass, red wine, an apple and three blackberries. You can see the entire process (and a photograph of the actual still life) in my youtube video titled, ‘Wine and Fruit” at http://www.youtube.com/GBHartists

Now this painting is quite interesting. I thought it would be nice to light an incense up in the loft, so I set one up, lit a match and OUCH, burned my finger! The match kind of exploded and the tip of the match landed on my ring finger on my right hand (my painting hand). YIKES it hurt like HECK. I immediately ran to the kitchen for my yellow mustard (this will heal a burn. No I am not crazy it works, I dare you to try it next time you have a burn. But don’t tell the FDA I said that… they’d find me and sue me ;) Anyway, I really couldn’t move my right hand very well, so I decided to paint today’s painting with my left hand.

This painting is probably 85% painted with the left hand and 15% with the right hand. I had to use my right hand for the tiny white lines in the wine glass and for the blackberries. It was a great challenge and I think I’ll do this again sometime in the future.

What’s on my mind lately? I’ll tell you, I’ve been thinking about the thought, ‘Don’t put off tomorrow what you can do today’. A few friends have been talking about this and it is still in my mind. My friend Alexis was getting her son ready for bed and was in full conversation in her head about all the stuff she had to do later in the evening. Realizing she was missing the opportunity to just BE with her son she stopped her crazy thoughts and did just that… enjoyed her son’s company. My friends Allyn & Sorin brought a beautiful bottle of Dom over for dinner to share with us for dinner and we all were discussing when the appropriate time would be to open such a treasure (it was a wedding gift). They said they wanted to share it with friends… and THAT was important to them more than anything.

How often do we think to ourselves, ‘I’ll do “A” when “B” happens’ and miss opportunities over and over and over. The short phrase by Nike, “JUST DO IT!” says it best. What ever dreams you may have inside I say GO FOR IT… What is stopping you? They can be small things or great big dreams, they’ll never manifest if action is not taken. Sometimes when I look at a big goal and think, ‘How can I possibly do that?’ I have to remind myself of the question, “How do you eat an elephant? One bite at a time.”

This is the daily motivation of the Daily Paintings. Just to do it. I have no idea what will come of this adventure, but I am having fun along the way.

Peace & blessings,
Gayle Etcheverry

Martini DP #25

Martini

This Painting is available at My eBay Store

Daily Painting #25

“Martini”

January 9, 2008

This acrylic painting is on a 10”x10” canvas. I set up a little still life next to my tabletop easel of a martini glass, vodka, olive and a black towel. You can see this still life in my video on youtube at http://www.youtube.com/GBHartists along with the rest of the painting process. I used brushes and pallet knives to create this look.

About a year ago, I painted a family portrait of 4 people, a wedding cake and 4 glasses of champagne. I enjoyed painting the glassware with all the proper reflections, so I figured it would be fun to try it again. This was a challenge, but also fun to make. (This painting is on my web site) I think I’ll try a few more still life paintings in the future. I don’t think I’ve painted a ‘still life’ since college. Wow, that was a while ago….

I’ve been really enjoying my time back up in the loft and am looking forward to seeing the different types of paintings that unfold. I know the more you practice at a skill, the better you’ll get. This makes me think of a friend of mine I met online, and I want to tell you about her here.

Elizabeth Bonura sculpts wedding cake toppers. She does incredible work. You send her a photograph and she’ll create a custom bride & groom. When I started my Daily Paintings she started Daily Sculptures, creating little small ornaments, hair clips, etc. She would post her photographs in the forums at momstown.com (where I met her and no you don’t have to be a mom to be a member) and you could see the progress in her pieces… absolutely inspiring to watch! Anyway, a while back she made an actual size cake topper of a bride in Texas. She had the wedding cake made to look just like her – life size! It’s huge! Crazy part it looks JUST LIKE HER! Word got around and Inside Edition featured her! We at momstown.com are so proud of her, so I wanted to give her a big shout out and post the link for everyone to see.

Blossoms DP #24

This painting is available at My eBay Store

January 8, 2008

Daily Painting #24 “Blossoms”

“Blossoms” is an acrylic painting on a 10”x10” canvas. The reference photograph is from my friend Maryanne Brunetti in New Zealand. You can see the process in my youtube video at http://www.youtube.com/GBHartists.

Things have been great since the beginning of the New Year. Two of my best friends (Dena and Chandra) are preparing to start their own version of a ‘Daily Painting’ process, which I am really looking forward to brainstorming with them about future art projects/ideas. We are already teaming up for an art show of our own in the spring. We are currently looking for a location for the show, we have a few places in mind, but are open to any suggestions you may have. An office building, bar/restaurant, coffee house or similar business are ideal and in the greater Los Angeles area. It is a one evening show for late April. If you or someone you know has any suggestions please send me an email!

Some people have asked me lately if I am okay and am I taking on too much in my life. At first this statement threw me off a bit, but then I started to really think about it. I guess to someone, yes it may seem like I have a lot on my plate. I think anybody’s life could be viewed as stressful, joyful, peaceful, etc. It all depends on the state of mind in the observer. I think the best way to describe my feelings about my life right now is to share the 26th Verse of the Tao:

The heavy is the root of the light.
The still is the master of unrest.

Realizing this,
The successful person is
Poised and centered
In the midst of all activities;
Although surrounded by opulence,
He is not swayed.

Why should the lord of the country
Flit about like a fool?
If you let yourself be blown to and fro,
You lose touch with your root.
To be restless is to lose one’s self-mastery.

In the midst of any unrest, stress or anything at all – I try to make the immediate decision to find the calm center of myself. This has made the difference in more ways than I can explain. When I went to the Wayne Dyer event in Maui he told us to “Stand in the center of your being, and forget you are even there”. And instead of saying to yourself, ‘What’s in it for me?’ ask yourself, ‘How may I serve?’

I invite you to try it. I think you’d be shocked and amazed about how much of that inner dialog will tone down (I call it inner backa backa)

Have a wonderful day~

Shirdi Sai Baba Daily Painting #23

This Painting is SOLD.

Daily Painting #23

“Shirdi Sai Baba”

January 5, 2008

This is an acrylic painting on a 9”x12” canvas. The subject matter is of Shirdi Sai Baba. He was an incredible man who lived in India. I think the best way to describe him is to just copy and paste some information I found online:

All were treated by him (Sai Baba) alike. Under his umbrella, both the Hindus and Muslims happily took part in each others religious festivals. The caste scheme of the Hindus had no relevance with Shri Sai. He had introduced the tradition of group worship, group prayer and group dinning for all and would share his 'Chilum' (Tobacco pipe) with all. He even showed highest compassion for animals and birds and encouraged his devotees to feed and take care of them. He recognised no difference in temporal status of human beings. He refused to accept food brought in silver and gold utensils from a queen but relished a single ROTI (hand-made bread) of a beggar woman and showered all His blessings.
- He practiced and preached humanism and universal brotherhood - prophet like.
- He established the superiority of love and compassion above egoism - Christ-like.
- He taught simplicity of livelihood and excellence of human virtue reflected in day to day conduct, Buddha-like.

If you would like to read more about him please visit the following website: http://www.saibabaofshirdi.net/

This was such an incredible experience in creating it. I was listening to the audio book, ‘Eat Pray Love’ by Elizabeth Gilbert again. The part when she is in India. I just thought it was appropriate. I’ve had a smile on my face all day because of this little painting. His face is so sweet, just like an angel.

Sorry this is a short blog, I’m running late for Blaine’s Work Holiday party.

Clouds Daily Painting #22

This painting is available at My Art Store

Daily Painting #22
“Clouds”

January 4, 2008

Well it is official, the first Daily Painting of 2008! Woo Hoo! I thought it would be fitting to paint these clouds as a study for a private commission job I am currently working on. This canvas is 12”x12” and in acrylic paint. You can check out a little one-minute video I put together as a slide show of the painting at my youtube site

http://www.youtube.com/GBHartists

The beautiful sky filled with fluffy clouds seemed a perfect subject to paint, especially because it is raining here. I know most of the country is having crappy weather right now too, so here’s something to brighten you day!

It felt so good to get up in the loft and paint I must admit. Like an old friend I haven’t seen in a while… we were quickly and happily reunited.

Well I must keep today’s blog short. I’m off to everyone’s favorite, Trader Joe’s!

So until next time, have a great day!!

Dragonfly DP #21

This Painting is SOLD.

Daily Painting #21

November 27, 2007

“Dragonfly on Grass” is an acrylic painting on an 8”x8” canvas. I’ve been thinking about the orange dragonfly I encountered on a mural job Dena and I painted this past August and wanted to take another try at the little guy. If you may remember, my first Daily Painting was of this exact orange dragonfly. He is painted all by brush and with acrylic paints. I took photographs of the entire process and made a small slide show of it to music. If you’d like to watch the process (takes about a minute) you can view it in my youtube account at:

http://www.youtube.com/GBHartists

Some exciting things have happened in just the past couple of days that I wanted to share with you. First of all, for some crazy reason I decided to call into the Wayne Dyer live radio show and talk to him about my new web site. Wouldn’t you know it I was the first caller in the show! He was just great and even remembered me from Maui. He gave my site GodBlessHumanity.com a HUGE plug! It was just awesome! Anyway, you can listen to the podcast if you are interested. It’s free to listen to at the following link:

Also, I was featured in another podcast in one of my favorite online networking groups at Jason’s Network! If you are tired of the crazies at myspace I highly recommend you go over to Jason’s Network and join. It is fantastic and there are many wonderful members there. Tell Jason I sent you if you do join. Anyway, on the main page of his site there is a little box with the advertisement for ‘Happy Feet’ (cartoon with penguins on it). Push the play button and you’ll hear the whole thing! It’s about 5 minutes long in total. http://www.JasonsNetwork.com

Dena and I have been preparing for a big residential job and it will take up a lot of my time during December and I am not sure how many daily paintings I’ll be able to accomplish. I will do my best to paint them as the time allows.

I hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving. Blaine and I drove to Phoenix and took Lucy with us. She played with her cousins, Tucker, Tommy & Ellie (Border Terriers). It was so cute!

Peace & blessings,

Red Flowers In Hair Daily Painting #20

This Painting is available at My Art Store.

Daily Painting #20

November 18, 2007

“Red Flowers In Hair” is an oil painting on a 12”x12” unframed canvas. I painted a portrait of a woman with red flowers in her hair. The photograph is from some random magazine I’ve held on to for a long time. I always wanted to paint this picture so I guess the timing was just perfect (funny because my printer was out of ink and I couldn’t print anything from my laptop anyway). I love painting people with out of the ordinary colors. If you look closely, you’ll see lime green, hot pink, purple, blue, and other fun colors. I had a lot of fun painting her. I just love looking into her eyes.

I’ve been busy getting ready for a big residential paint job Dena and I will be working on in December, all the while thinking about how much I couldn’t wait to get back up to the loft to paint. During the month of December my Daily Paintings will probably be limited to weekends, maybe I will figure something else out. Oh well, will just have to wait and see huh?

I’m in the mood to paint some nudes in thick, heavy brush/pallet knife strokes, so if anyone out there has any good reference photos they think would make a great painting please feel free to email them to me. I’d prefer photographs of not-so-skinny women. Obviously, please consider this to be a painting so the picture should be a nice, non-offensive one. They also do not have to be nude, dressed is fine too.

Something that has been on my mind since yesterday is from Alice In Wonderland. My friend Alexis Ahrens (www.littlelogbook.com) told me about this, after she heard Rev. Michael Beckwith talk about it:
"Alice laughed: "There's no use trying," she said; "one can't believe impossible things." "I daresay you haven't had much practice," said the Queen. "When I was younger, I always did it for half an hour a day. Why, sometimes I've believed as many as six impossible things before breakfast."

Now exercise suggested that was inspired by this is everyday, to think of 6 impossible things before breakfast. So I did this. I wrote them down. Really trying to pick the most impossible thoughts I could possibly have about what I’d like in my life. After I looked at the screen I realized, THIS IS A FANTASTIC WAY TO WRITE AFFIRMATIONS! Brilliant! I thought about those 6 impossible things all day long! Try it. I know you’ll be smiling and it will effect you in the most delightful way!

Well that’s all for today. Hopefully I’ll get another painting off before I leave for Thanksgiving. There will be no paintings for the majority of the week.

I hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving – just incase this is the last time I write.

Peace & blessings,
Gayle Etcheverry

Blue Man DP #19

This painting is SOLD.

Daily Painting #19

November 16, 2007

“Blue Man” is an oil painting on an unframed, 10”x10” canvas. I used brushes, pallet knives, and paint thinner to achieve this look. This painting was inspired from a piece I created many years ago in college. It is one of my favorite paintings from art school and always wanted to try it again. So I thought it would be a challenge to try it in a day. This is the end result… just a smaller version of the original (but better!)

Don’t forget, this is an oil painting and will not be available for shipment for a few weeks after the auction is over. I piled the paint up on this one and I want to be sure it is completely dried before it goes inside a box. Also, I started to watermark my paintings in photoshop. It is not on the painting just the digital image of it. Thanks to Ron at www.accentdigital.com for that idea! (BTW, if you are ever thinking of building a web site… I highly recommend Accent Digital. They are the best!)

So I will close today’s painting with a quote… Have a wonderful Friday!

“Fashion your life as a garland of beautiful deeds.”
-Buddha

Om Shanti Daily Painting #18

This Painting is SOLD.

Daily Painting #18

November 14, 2007

“Om Shanti” is an oil painting on an unframed, 9”x12” canvas and the subject is from a photograph I used in my video on GBH. I used various brush techniques to render the statue. Please note this painting will not be available to ship for 2-3 weeks from now. It is very wet and will stay this way for a little while. The end result is worth the wait.

It’s really weird, ever since we returned from Maui I’ve been a bit ‘razzed’. I’ve just been feeling a little stressed and I couldn’t figure out why. I talked to my business partner Dena about it and she was feeling the same way. After we talked I realized that I really need to do the morning meditation everyday to put me in a good space for the whole day. So I started an experiment with myself and am going to meditate every morning for 20 minutes. Today is day 3 and it’s making all the difference. The meditation I am doing also has affirmations, so I guess you could say I am ‘killing two birds with one stone’.

When I opened my email today I read the following quote:

“For fast acting relief, try slowing down.”
-Lily Tomlin

It’s so simple and right on target. I just thought it was nice to share this with you.

Well, that’s all for today. Have a wonderful day!!

Peace & blessings,
Gayle Etcheverry

A Mothers Love DP #17

This Painting is SOLD.

Daily Painting #17

November 9, 2007

“A Mothers Love” Acrylic Painting on 12”x12” unframed canvas.

I picked the theme of dolphins again for my Daily Painting. This time it is a mother & baby dolphin swimming together. I’ve always loved dolphins, but baby dolphins? Wow aren’t they just super cute, or what? If you look close, there are some ‘bubble gum’ colors in the dolphins, pink, lime green, purple, etc. It was really fun to paint. I must have been snorkeling again in my mind. When we were in Maui, Blaine and I went on a snorkel tour and saw so much beautiful sea life. We had a blast! Although I didn’t see any dolphins on this trip in the ocean, I met many ‘dolphins’ on the island of Maui. I think Maui is an island FILLED with dolphins. Even the ‘sharks’ & ‘tuna’ that visit the island start to turn into ‘dolphins’ by the end of their vacation.

I am of course referring to my friend, Chellie Campbell’s analogy of people in the world as Dolphins, Sharks and Tunas. Tunas whine, bitch & complain about life and are always victims. Sharks care only about themselves and will eat you if possible. Dolphins are fun, happy and loving and are YOUR people. To read more about this great story you can visit her site at http://www.chellie.com or after Monday November 12th, 2007 you can read the same story on my new site http://www.GodBlessHumaity.com (I’ll have it uploaded by then)

Well that is all I have to say today. Much to do and I want to get back up to the loft and play with my paints again.

Have a wonderful day!!

Summer Cottage Daily Painting #16

This Painting is Available at My Art Store

“Summer Cottage” Daily Painting #16

November 8, 2007

“Summer Cottage” is an acrylic painting on an 8”x10” unframed canvas. I used another beautiful photograph from the lovely & talented photographer, Maryanne Brunetti from New Zealand. She sent this photograph a while back and I always think of it. It is just beautiful. When I close my eyes and imagine what my future painting studio will look like… THIS is exactly what I see. Isn’t it just heavenly? You’ll never get me out of it… (probably a good thing☺)

The weather is starting to turn colder here in Los Angeles. It’s hard to believe a week ago I was surfing on the beach in Maui. I must still be there in my mind. It’s always summer in my head. I do enjoy the change in temperature I must say. I finally get to wear my Uggs & sweaters outside. And since the fires seem to be contained, the air isn’t smoky anymore. It’s all good.

As you all know by now, I’ve been working on my new web page www.GodBlessHumanity.com for a while now and it’s been live for a few weeks. The response has been incredible. Many people from all over the world are interested in sharing good news stories on the site. This just puts the biggest smile on my face. Sometimes I start to doubt myself and realize that is natural and I just have to get back to a place of JOY and only allow thoughts that make me feel good stay in my head. Meditating helps keep me in that state. I’ve been using the audio CD of Wayne Dyer’s “Meditations for Manifesting” in the mornings and just started to listen to the evening meditation before bed. I can’t express how much of a difference it makes in my mood, attitude and how I react to events in the world. The following quote fits right in here:

"Whatever course you decide upon, there is always someone to tell you that you are wrong. There are always difficulties arising which tempt you to believe that your critics are right. To map out a course of action and follow it to an end requires...courage."

Ralph Waldo Emerson

So I will continue to go with my inner calling and only listen to my instincts. It’s worked over and over my entire life.

Peace & blessings,
Gayle Etcheverry
