Om Shanti Daily Painting #18

This Painting is SOLD.

Daily Painting #18

November 14, 2007

“Om Shanti” is an oil painting on an unframed, 9”x12” canvas and the subject is from a photograph I used in my video on GBH. I used various brush techniques to render the statue. Please note this painting will not be available to ship for 2-3 weeks from now. It is very wet and will stay this way for a little while. The end result is worth the wait.

It’s really weird, ever since we returned from Maui I’ve been a bit ‘razzed’. I’ve just been feeling a little stressed and I couldn’t figure out why. I talked to my business partner Dena about it and she was feeling the same way. After we talked I realized that I really need to do the morning meditation everyday to put me in a good space for the whole day. So I started an experiment with myself and am going to meditate every morning for 20 minutes. Today is day 3 and it’s making all the difference. The meditation I am doing also has affirmations, so I guess you could say I am ‘killing two birds with one stone’.

When I opened my email today I read the following quote:

“For fast acting relief, try slowing down.”
-Lily Tomlin

It’s so simple and right on target. I just thought it was nice to share this with you.

Well, that’s all for today. Have a wonderful day!!

Peace & blessings,

Blue Lao-Tzu Daily Painting #2

This Painting is SOLD.

Daily Painting #2

September 2, 2007

I thought it would be fitting to create a painting inspired from the book I am currently reading called, ‘Change Your Thoughts, Change Your Life. Living the Wisdom of the Tao’ by Wayne Dyer. It’s a modern day translation of the Tao and everyday I read a verse and try to think about it during my day. It really is fantastic and I highly recommend it.

Last night as I read through the book I found this at the beginning and thought what a coincidence with yesterdays dragonfly painting…

Of birds, I know that they Have wings to fly with, Of fish that they have fins to Swim with, of wild beasts that they Have feet to run with. For feet there are traps, For fins nets, for wings arrows. But who knows how dragons Surmount wind and cloud Into heaven? This day I have seen [Lao-tzu] and he is a dragon. -from The Way of Life According to Lao Tzu, Translated by Witter Bynner. (This quote is attributed to Confucius, after he visited the elder Lao-tzu to seek advice on points of ceremonial etiquette.) Incredible huh?

Okay so on to the painting.

It is 10”x10” unframed canvas. Actually is a museum thickness canvas. I painted it with acrylic paints, inks, and paint pens. This type of painting is very difficult to capture in a photograph so I took a few different shot of it including a couple of close up shots to give you an idea of exactly how it looks. If you’d like a larger format just send me an email and I’ll send you one gayleetcheverry@sbcglobal.net

This type of painting is REALLY fun to create. You have ZERO control of the medium. I use a ‘pouring medium’ by Liquitex and add Soft Bodied Acrylics to the medium. You just pour it on the canvas and let it do its thing. Plus I will put drops of ink in it and it really goes crazy. It’s fun to watch. One day when I get my video camera I will tape the process and speed it up so you can watch it come to life. Kind of like watching a flower open up on film in high speed. This is a perfect example of how important it is to just let go, and let God (as they say so beautifully in the recovery movement). Another favorite quote I once heard is, ‘Want to make God laugh? Tell her your plans!’.

So I decided the perfect quote to put on the first of my quote Daily Paintings is a Lao-tzu quote, ‘A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step’. Or in my case a single painting. What single step could you take in the direction you’d like your life to be heading? Think about that one for a few minutes…
