Dolphin Play Daily Painting #10

This Painting is SOLD.

Daily Painting #10

October 1, 2007

'Dolphin Play' is an acrylic painting on a 12"x12" unframed canvas. The canvas is 1 3/8th inches thick. I used brushes, palette knife and toothbrush (old :) to apply the paint. If you look closely you'll see thick scrapes of paint across the top from the palette knife and all over the painting you can see color splattered. That was accomplished with the toothbrush.

Ever since I can remember, I’ve always loved the ocean and everything in it. I used to dream of surfing as a child and playing with dolphins in the water. I did learn to surf as an adult, but haven’t gone swimming next to a dolphin in the water, YET. Definitely going to put that one on the life’s list tonight!

Now, I do have many ‘dolphins’ in my life now. Let me explain… My friend Chellie Campbell has a simple way of categorizing people into three groups; Sharks, Tunas and Dolphins. Sharks are people who are looking for lose-win situations (meaning they win, you lose). They probably could care less about you, think nothing of you, and probably want to do some harm to you in one way or another. Tunas seem to attract lose-lose situations (you both lose). They whine, complain, bitch and moan about everything. They seem to be a victim all the time. They usually swim in very large schools too. Dolphins always look for win-win situations (you both win!) and THESE are your people. They love you, praise you, play with you, make you smile, will fight of sharks if needed, and treat you like family. Naturally, I prefer dolphins and thankfully attract them all the time. Whenever I am confronted by a person who is acting like a shark or a tuna, I immediately remember this classification and think to myself, ‘NOT MY PEOPLE! Don’t take it personally and they are NOT dolphins’. It makes all unpleasant situations easy to deal. It also reminds me not to become a shark or a tuna if I am confronted by one and stay true to my dolphin nature. If you like to learn more about my rock star friend Chellie her web page is http://www.chellie.com

Ever since I started the daily paintings I’ve had dolphins on my mind. Again it’s the Maui thing. I must always have Maui on my mind or something. That’s a good thing.

My business partner, Dena and I started our annual Oscar’s/Red Carpet job and it will last for 3 weeks. If you haven’t checked out our web page before, please feel free to do so at http://www.prettyinpaint.net

I will do my best to work on some daily paintings through the week, but if you don’t hear from me as often as before, this is why. Also I’ve been working very hard on my latest web project… more information soon to follow, I promise! Maybe in 2 weeks.

Until next time…

Peace & blessings,
Gayle Etcheverry

Lahaina Maui Sunset Daily Painting #9

This Painting is SOLD.

Daily Painting #9

September 27, 2007

“Lahaina Maui Sunset” is an oil painting on a 9”x12” unframed canvas. For those of you who don’t know, Maui has to be my favorite place on planet earth. One day I will live there… mark my words! My first trip to Maui was on our honeymoon and we stayed in Lahaina. Lahaina is a great little town, and thankfully we are going back Oct 24th to Nov 4th and I cannot wait! I plan on taking many pictures so I can make more daily paintings of Maui. Plus we’ll be there for Halloween and we’ll be celebrating with about 30,000 other people in the streets of Lahaina. They call it the Mardi Gras of the Pacific. Lots of fun.

If you look closely in the photographs of the painting you’ll see there is lot of texture on this one. It will definitely take about 2 weeks for this one to dry. So if you are the winning bidder keep that in mind for the date it will ship out.

The theme running though my mind the past couple of days has just been pure energy. I swear I am wired all day and night. Up really late and super early. I just can’t stop thinking about painting! Soon you will see this Daily Painting thing grow a little bigger. I will let you know as soon as I have something to show. Also I have another BIG web project I’ve been working on that will be launched very soon and I am very happy & excited about that. Stay tuned for that one.

My reading kind of went on hold, but my ipod is working and I’ve been listening to lots of uplifting music and I’ve been dancing all over the house, in my car, singing when I am walking Lucy, singing AND dancing when I am painting. I’ve been feeling really good. ☺

Well to sum it all up… LIFE IS GREAT! I have zero complaints. Just a lot to be grateful for!

Peace & blessings,
Gayle Etcheverry

North Shore Daily Painting #5

This Painting is SOLD.
September 16, 2007

Daily Painting #5

'North Shore' Acrylic Painting on unframed canvas (museum canvas) size is 10" by 10". This painting was inspired from a photograph I took in Oahu last December on the North Shore during the Vans Triple Crown Surf Competition. My husband and I went to Oahu to see U2 in concert and I really wanted to take a trip up to the North Shore. The waves are magnificent! I guess I've had Hawaii on the brain for a while which lead me to painting this type of landscape.

I've been absent this week from the Daily Paintings because I had an unexpected trip to the ER last Tuesday with a Kidney Infection (YIKES... do they suck!). I ended up on medication and checked out for the week. Someone must have been trying to tell me to slow down... well I got the message clear and strong and did one thing... REST. Besides sleeping and watching more TV in a week than I have all year long, I spent some time reflecting on the book I am currently reading, 'Change Your Thought, Change Your Life. The Wisdom of the Tao' by Wayne Dyer. It's a wonderful book and I highly recommend it to all. Each short chapter is a verse from the Tao and the present day translation how to apply it to your life. One that stuck with me was verse #11 Living from the Void.

Thirty spokes converge upon a single hub;
it is on the hole in the center that
the use of the cart hinges.

Shape clay into a vessel;
it is the space within that makes it useful.
Carve fine doors and windows,
but the room is useful in its emptiness.

The usefulness of what is
depends on what is not.

I tried my best to stay in the 'void' part of me and not to think of being ill. Not to think really at all. It was really nice. Wasn't bored. Wasn't really anything. I just was. Still trying to carry that one on now that my life is getting back together. Funny thing is when I was in the ER my iPod broke. I guess someone was trying to 1. slow me down and 2. keep me quiet. YES I got the message LOUD and CLEAR :)

I'm always thinking of Hawaii, and will be going to Maui in October to see Wayne Dyer in a live seminar on the Tao (very excited!) so that is why I picked a wave as my subject matter. I could paint anything that has to do with the ocean any day!

Have a wonderful day and Happy Bidding!!

Peace & Blessings,
Gayle Etcheverry
